Abstract: |
Archenfield Archaeology conducted a program of archaeological monitoring and building survey at Pool Farm, Much Dewchurch, preceding the conversion of a barn into four residential units. The excavation of a service trench outside unit 1, measuring 1.4 metres by 10 meters, was monitored and photographs were taken of the floors inside the building. There were no finds or features observed during the groundwork. A building survey was carried out on a timber-framed barn, two stone barns and Pool farmhouse. The timber structures appear to have been originally constructed in the 17th or 18th century, although later alterations have been made to most of the buildings. The agricultural buildings are typical of the vernacular architecture of the area and are indicative of the types of agricultural practice carried on in the area. |
