Abstract: |
Archenfield Archaeology conducted a programme of archaeological monitoring and building survey at Merryhill Farm, Herefordshire, preceding the conversion of the buildings into residential units. The excavation of service trenches around the farm buildings showed no signs of archaeological features, deposits or datable finds. The lowering of the concrete floor surface within the cattle shed revealed an extensive area of cobbling, probably of an earlier floor of the shed. The farm buildings probably date to the 18th century and were surveyed (to level 2 RCHME) from architect drawings supplied by the client, and revealed three phases of alterations to the farm yard complex associated with the continued modernization and industrialization of farming techniques. |
