Abstract:
A rapid desk based assessment and subsequent walkover survey was undertaken in association with proposals to bury electricity cables to beautify this area of the Lake District, in order to inform of a suitable cable route through the valley. Rumours of rock art in the area, and nearby evidence for Iron Age or Romano-British activity suggested archaeological features might be disturbed by such a proposal. The survey revealed ruined farm buildings and wall footings, probably relating to pre-existing field boundaries, paddocks and other agricultural utilisation of the area.
