Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out to provide information for a planning application to build a new swimming pool, pavilion and gazebo in the empty walled garden at Wickham House. The potential arose because the site lies just south of the projected course of Ermin Street, and there are a number of Roman finds from the area. Three evaluation trenches all revealed Roman ditches, with one pit. The site''s location, close to Ermin Street, presumably represents a small roadside settlement. Pottery, including some imports, suggests a date range from the 2nd to 4th centuries AD. |
