Abstract:
In response to the requirements of the Cambridgeshire Archaeology, Planning and Countryside Advice (CAPCA) section of Cambridge County Council, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owners to conduct an archaeological evaluation of a development site situated at South View, Church Street, Litlington. The study area, centred on NGR TL 31226 42661, is situated on the north-east side of Church Street, just to the north-west of its junction with Middle Street. The site was occupied by a factory, part of which has been demolished in advance of the start of development works. The development proposes the construction of a new block comprising three dwellings, with associated car parking, landscaping and services. Two trenches were excavated on the site. Trench 1 contained a single course of brick walling. Trench 2 contained three features: Feature [201] was the base of rectangular pit measuring 0.50 x 0.48m and 0.03m deep. Feature [203] was a large cut measuring over 3.60m long, over 1.60m wide and 0.48m deep. A modern rubbish pit was also observed. The finds recovered from the site suggest that all activity is of Victorian or modern date.
