Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks associated with an extension to Sheffield Mill Farm, Mill Lane, Furners Green. Groundworks included ground reduction of an area approximately 13.5 x 5 metres to a maximum depth of 1.74 metres below ground level.. Site visits were made to monitor groundworks on the 19th and 20th April 2007. All further groundworks were to take place within this footprint for the new extension. Excavations revealed the presence of a large pit that contained backfilled material relating to the Medieval Sheffield Mill Iron Furnace. |
