Abstract: |
A field evaluation comprising the excavation of two trenches, each measuring 8m by 1.5m, along the lines of two opposing walls of a proposed new house to the NE of Abbeyhill, Precinct Street, Coupar Angus. The site lies towards the edge or just beyond the presumed precinct of the 12th-century Cistercian Abbey of Coupar Angus. The trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.6m, only topsoil being encountered throughout. A test pit in one of the trenches was excavated through more topsoil to a depth of 1m where disturbed materials were revealed. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were uncovered. |
