Abstract: |
Stratascan were commissioned to undertake a geophysical survey of an area outlined for development. This survey forms part of an archaeological investigation being undertaken by Exeter Archaeology. A ground probing radar survey was carried out at the site of Plympton priory in Devon. The survey area is dominated by small areas of discrete and complex responses that may indicate structural remains or debris of possible archaeological origin. A large complex and discrete feature has been identified in the south of the survey area that may represent a former track or roadway. The western end of the survey area is dominated by near surface planar anomalies. These anomalies may by caused by the current or former ground surface and be of modern origin, however small discrete responses are situated amid these responses which may represent structural remains and debris. A number of possible services and service trenches have been identified across the survey. There is a chance that these anomalies may represent fragmented structural remains. |
