Abstract:		 A watching brief was undertaken in July 2007 on groundworks relating to a redevelopment on land to the rear of Smiths Gore, Main Street, Corbridge. The works involved the excavation by hand of a foundation trench providing medieval pottery and redeposited kiln fragments suggestive of nearby iron-working activity, further evidenced by previous works in the vicinity and the knowledge that Main Street was once known as Smithgate or Smithygate.
