Abstract: |
An Archaeological building survey was required as a condition of Listed Building consent in respect of proposed engineering activities in the yard of Rivington Hall Barn. The Barn and its curtilage is a Grade II listed building and forms part of a larger complex that includes Rivington Hall itself. The yard was found to be a partially cobbled surface which would once have been a focal point for the manorial farmstead at Rivington Hall. It was noted that the cobbles in the south part of the yard were irregular in size shape and density whereas those in the northern part were much more regular and neatly laid; possibly in connection with restoration work at the barn in the early 20th century. |
