Abstract: |
. A watching brief conducted between October 2007 and March 2008 comprised the machine excavation of strip foundation trenches, service runs and ground reduction. Natural alluvial and brickearth deposits were identified on site between 0.75m and 0.35m below ground level. Three features were identified as truncating the brickearth, consisting of two pits and a linear ditch. The ditch did not produce any dateable finds, and the dating evidence recovered from the pits was ambiguous, although it does indicate that a low intensity of activity was taking place on site between the later prehistoric and Romano-British period. Sealing the features and across the remainder of the site was a layer of subsoil followed by a layer of either topsoil or made ground. |
