Abstract: |
The excavation started at short notice before the evaluation report had been written, this is the reason for the results of the evaluation, excavation and watching brief all being presented in a single report. The archaeological work revealed evidence of a Roman and possible prehistoric occupation area. A series of ditches, relating to the Roman period were excavated across the site. The ditches are thought to have been part of a field system although the ditches to the northwestern part of the site may also have acted as property boundaries for nearby settlement on the fringes of March. One large pit, also in the northwestern part of the site contained an assemblage of struck flints. |
