Abstract: |
In response to a condition placed on the planning permission for a development at Church Farm House, Clothall, Herts, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owners to undertake a programme of building recording and archaeological monitoring. Cartographic evidence demonstrates the southern range to the house had existed since at least the mid 19th centuary and formed the western side of the farmyard until the mid 20th century. The structure shows significant reworking and rebuilding of walls on earlier foundations, during the 20th century. Monitoring of the ground reduction in the foorprint of the former garage for the new extension revealed the remains of a chalk farmyard surface. No other features, deposits or artefacts were observed. |
