Abstract: |
Previous works, including a fieldwalking survey and archaeological evaluation had demonstrated the survival of archaeological features on the site. The Heritage Network were then commissioned to undertake the excavation of an area measuring approximately 120m x 35m. Excavation revealed three main periods of activity. The area was first occupied in the late Bronze/early Iron Age, when a number of ditches were excavated. No evidence for middle Iron Age activity was recorded but the site was re-occupied between the late 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD. The identified features indicate the presence of a small rural settlement. Finally a medieval/post-medieval ditch was excavated across the site, which was backfilled in the mid 20th century. |
