Abstract:
Four areas of archaeological significance were identified during monitoring of the contractor's Haul Road: Plot 6 - a series of LBA/EIA pits and a posthole were investigated. Fragments of at least 2 crucibles were recovered, indicating metal-working in the vicinity. Plot 18 - a single Iron Age ditch was encountered. However, the density of pottery and other domestic material recovered from the feature indicated a settlement site in close proximity. Plot 29 - a number of pits and linear features were identified. This data, in association with the evidence recovered during the earlier evaluation of the site, indicates a multi-period settlement site, dating from the late prehistoric into the Roman period. Plot 34 - a Bronze Age ring ditch was revealed, with associated pits and posthole. These features were recorded and preserved in situ.
