Abstract: |
In March 2007, North Pennines Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by SMC DTR UK Limited to undertake an archaeological desk study, site visit and field evaluation in advance of a proposed redevelopment of land situated on the east side of Infirmary Street, Carlisle. The site had been occupied by the former Carlisle Canal Saw Mills. The mill was built in 1836 and operated until a fire caused extensive damage in 1929. Five evaluation trenches excavated to assess the extent of its remains found surviving walls and floors, and further work was recommended. |
