Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation by trial trenching and test-pitting was undertaken by CFA along the agreed corridor of an access road to a proposed development at Kirkpark, Inveresk East Lothian. No remains of archaeological significance were identified within the evaluated area. Trenching in the west of the area revealed the remains of a modern red-brick wall along with demolition layers of brick rubble and sand probably associated with the wire works that used to occupy the site. The demolition material overlay colluvial and old topsoil layers overlying natural beach sand. Test-pitting along the road line revealed made ground deposits of brick rubble to a depth of at least 2.3m. Trenching in the eastern part of the site revealed mostly topsoil onto a heavily bioturbated hillwash deposit overlying mixed alluvial clays and clay sands. |
