Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to development on land at Bury Lane Farm, Ramsey, Cambridgeshire. The development area was positioned approximately 200m east of previous discoveries of Roman artefacts which perhaps mark the area of a settlement. To the west of the site is Biggin House built in the 16th century on the probable site of a medieval hospital. The evaluation failed to identify or record any features, deposits or artifacts of archaeological significance. A modern field-boundary ditch represents the only identified feature. The lack of archaeological evidence therefore indicates that the postulated Roman settlement and medieval hospital do not extend in to the area of development. |
