Abstract: |
In December 2009, Archaeological Solutions Ltd carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation at the former Dairy Depot, at the rear of 11-17 Church Street, St. Neots, Cambridgeshire (TL 186 620). The evaluation was commissioned by Howard (Project Management) Ltd and was carried out in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning permission for the residential development of the site (Planning ref. 0900305FUL). The evaluation revealed features and deposits of medieval, late medieval, early post-medieval and modern date. Nineteenth-century structures (outbuildings and garden walls) and modern pits were recorded. The earlier activity comprised large ditches or possible quarrying, and some settlement activity (pits and postholes). The medieval and late medieval archaeology was sufficiently substantial, and at a significant depth, that it survived later activity. |
