Abstract: |
In November 2005 an archaeological evaluation was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group at 12-13 Commerce Way, Croydon on behalf of Canmoor Projects Ltd. The aim of the evaluation was to assess the impact of the proposed development of the site on any surviving archaeological remains. The evaluation consisted of five machine excavated trenches measuring 20m x 1.8m, and one measuring 10 x 1.8m. A single feature containing sherds of Iron Age pottery was discovered in Trench 2 but its extent was difficult to establish, elucidating little in the way of interpretation. It was therefore decided to open a seventh, contingency, trench. Two features containing flint flakes were recorded cut into the natural gravels. It was postulated that these may be Late Bronze Age or Early Iron Age in date. |
