Abstract: |
In September 2010, Archaeological Solutions Ltd carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation at 19 The Thorpe, Hemingford Grey, in advance of residential development of the site. The site lies 400m south of a historic moated Manor House which is a Scheduled Monument and Grade I listed building. Two rectangular moated sites are recorded in close proximity to each other and within 60m of the south end of the site. Extensive areas of medieval ridge and furrow have been identified within 250m of the site. The evaluation revealed 12th - 14th century pits, ditches and gullies and a possible boundary ditch associated with a medieval settlement. |
