Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a series of flumes with associated open ditch and cable trenching. A total of 6 flumes were monitored, each of which measured approximately 3m by 2m and varied in depth from 1.1-1.2m. In addition to this, approximately 1,800m of trenching was monitored, The soil profile was very similar across the site, consisting of topsoil overlaying the natural strata. All of the soil profiles observed were void of archaeological features or deposits. The spoil heaps were scanned for finds and no pre-modern pottery was recovered. In view of this, the watching brief was terminated in agreement with DCHES. |
