Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East (ASE) was commissioned by Jacobs Engineering UK Ltd., on behalf of the Environment Agency, to undertake a programme of archaeological work along the route of a flood alleviation scheme at Lewes Cliffe, East Sussex (NGR TQ 422102 to TQ 419101) between 10th June and 28th October 2009. All of the footing trenches/intrusive ground work revealed overburden comprising either subsoil or made ground and sealed by either topsoil or asphalt surfacing. 18th- to mid 19th- century brickwork was recorded in the car park at Bear Yard. No earlier deposits or features were encountered during the watching brief. |
