Abstract: |
John Moore Heritage Services conducted the first part of an archaeological evaluation of the proposed development site, from 19thJuly until 28th August 2007. Twenty-five trenches, totalling approximately 780 metres in length, were excavated to reveal the underlying natural geology. Known prehistoric activity recorded to the east was seen to extend into this area. A continuation of a known ditch was recorded. Other features including ditches, pits and postholes, although undated, probably are from this period. An apparent field system located by the geophysical survey would appear to extend into the area and possibly pre-dates 1765. The results of this geophysical survey were also investigated. Anomalies examined proved to be pits containing burnt stone. Also located was a ring ditch and an undated buried land-surface. |
