Abstract: |
John Moore Heritage Services concluded an archaeological evaluation of the proposed development site between 21st July and 1st August 2008. Thirteen trenches, totalling approximately 340 metres in length, were excavated to reveal the underlying natural geology. The investigation revealed that although aerial photographs showed significant detail along the road much of this was not reflected in the geophysical results. These results were themselves questioned by the lack of archaeological features in the majority of trenches. The Roman road was bisected by three trenches where it was seen to survive in varying degrees of preservation. |
