Abstract: |
Archaeology South East were commissioned by Ms Jackie Heath (of Gifford) to undertake the excavation of three archaeological trial holes prior to ground works associated with the construction of a new extension at Daintrey House, East Street, Petworth, West Sussex (NGR 497805 121723). The excavations were carried between the 18th, 19th and 20th October 2006. The trial holes established the depths of the existing wall foundations of the present house. Post medieval deposits were recorded and finds collected. Inspection holes were also monitored in the garden of the house. As a result a possible well was located with a depth of c. 3m. |
