Abstract: |
An evaluation lasting 3 days was followed immediately by a 3 day watching brief. A series of probable medieval field boundaries were identified running perpendicular to Crawley High Street, parallel to Church Walk. It is likely one of these boundaries was moved to the north in the 15th or 16thcenturies. Pits containing iron working slag cut the earlier medieval ditch and dates to the mid 14th to 15th century. A pit containing animal bone and little slag dates from the mid 15th to 16th century and may reflect a change of land use related to the decline of the metalworking industry in the late 15th century. |
