Abstract: |
University of Leicester Archaeological Services was commissioned by the Dalkin Scotton Partnership to undertake a photographic survey of outbuildings at West End Farm, Bitteswell, Leicestershire. Planning permission has been granted for the conversion of the buildings to residential use Two separate phases of building were observed and recorded photographically. The buildings were a mid- 19th-century brick-built barn and later 19th-century stables and loose boxes. Originally, both buildings, but especially the barn, appear to have been built to a very high standard and on the whole, were well maintained. The farm underwent very little 20th-century development. A significant number of Apotropaic Marks were recorded on apparently re-used roof timbers within the barn. The photographic survey provided a permanent visual (photographic) record of the building in its current state. The archive will be held by Leicestershire County Council Museums Service, under the accession number X.A176.2010. |
