Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Exeter Archaeology on geo-technical trial pits in advance of the widening of Old Exeter Road for the provision of a new cycle lane on the south east side of the road extending into Chudleigh Road on the south-west side. A total of eight pits were dug with a swing shovel with a 0.60m-wide toothed bucket. Apart from a 19th century drain uncovered in Pit 5 and the presumably modern ash waste deposit in Pit 7, no features, deposits or dating evidence were found to indicate archaeological activity within the area of proposed road widening. |
