Abstract: |
Features recorded in the three trial-trenches at the rear of the public house were all of recent date while the only find was a coin of Henry III dating from 1251-1272 . A proposed trench at the front of the pub was not excavated, but monitoring of footing trenches for the development failed to identify any archaeological deposits. The evaluation and monitoring prove the previously identified Early Anglo Saxon cemetery on the southern side of the Sproughton Road did not extend northwards as far as the development area. In addition, the evaluation suggested that there was no significant archaeology relating to other periods of activity on the site. |
