Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment and walkover undertaken of a proposed sewerage pipeline route from the north end of King Street to Duddon Villa, then from the Waste Water Treatment Works to an outfall at the sea. The desk-based assessment revealed that up until the second half of the 19th century, the area through which the proposed pipeline will pass was largely marshland. Following the construction Millom Ironworks in 1867, the pipeline route will pass along former railway tracks and features associated with the works. The walkover survey revealed that the majority of the pipeline route is located along gravel trackways, although towards the eastern end the route travels through pasture land, although no archaeological features were noted on the ground. |
