Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation undertaken on land adjacent to the Lower Nurseries, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew between 15th and 22nd of December 2008. Ten evaluation trenches and three test-pits were excavated. Part of a back-filled 19th century ditch/sunken fence feature was exposed, considered to be the same boundary feature depicted on contemporary maps. Also uncovered were a 18th/19th century boundary ditch, as well as cultivation marks. Probable 19th century red-brick walls were exposed elsewhere. A relatively small assemblage of finds was recovered, including residual prehistoric worked and burnt flint. |
