Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during Thames Water mains replacement works along Lyons Place, Aberdeen Place, and the junction of Edgware Road with Aberdeen Place. Very little of archaeological significance was exposed during the course of the watching brief. Trenching on Lyons Place and Aberdeen Place exposed existing road layers overlying mixed deposits of modern service intrusions. Some of the 'natural', clay and gravel, deposits were also observed. The only archaeological features to be observed were in Edgware Road, where the blue-grey gravelly-clay may have been infilling the cut for the Regent's Canal, and in Lyons Place where there were two features - a probably 19th Century brick drain/sewer, and a single course of 17th Century brickwork. |
