Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken by South West Archaeology Limited (SWARCH) whilst stripping of the site at Little Stowford, Hore Down Gate, Ilfracombe ahead of the construction of a building for SMR storage and processing was undertaken. Three linears were exposed cutting into the subsoil broadly orientated north-east by south-west, two suggestive of modern service trenches and another possibly corresponding with a former modern hedge/boundary. The only other archaeological feature which was identified on the site was a large spread of material suggesting that the area had been stripped or terraced possibly for the construction of a building and with deposits relating to its collapse/demolition. Very few finds were recovered and most were post medieval/modern. |
