Abstract: |
A watching brief to monitor ground reduction connected with the construction of new visitor facilities at the Ditches Lane car par was carried out within part of the Scheduled Ancient Monument (No.Lo88) of Farthing Down which is know to contain prehistoric remains. Works on a new footpath N of the car park revealed a series of parallel plough-marks of probable 20th-century date, while the level of ground reduction in other areas was generally shallow and revealed only subsoil beneath the topsoil. No archaeological features were observed and natural strata were not seen. |
