Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	The excavation at PDZ3.39 revealed up to 5m of 19th and 20th century landfill. Beneath this, towards the west of the trench was a revetted channel of 18/19th century date. Probably representing an earlier course of the Pudding Mill River. Contained within the infilled channel were the remains of a small river craft. East of the channel was an accumulation of alluvial clays. Towards the base of the alluvial sequence was a shallow, narrow ditch of Roman date. Below the alluvium yellow sands were discovered, only the upper part of which was excavated, due to pressurized groundwater.
