Abstract:		 Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Arup, on behalf of Bristol Water, to maintain an archaeological watching brief during Site Investigation works across three sites in Somerset at Cheddar West, Clewer and Wookey centred on ST 44200 52600, ST 43200 51400, and ST 50880 46800 respectively. The geotechnical investigations were proposed to establish the suitability of each site for a proposed reservoir and consisted of a combination of Core Penetration Testing (CPT), borehole sampling and test pitting. Twenty eight test pits were excavated under constant archaeological supervision across the three sites. Only a single archaeological feature was identified and comprised a probable pit within Site 1 (Cheddar West). The pit was hand excavated, however no finds were observed and the feature remains undated. No further features or material was recorded during the watching brief. The fieldwork took part intermittently between the 9th and 23rd September 2011.
