Abstract: |
A photographic survey of agricultural buildings at Searby Top Farm was required in advance of their conversion to residential use. As a result of the survey and complimentary documentary research it was established that farm originated in the second quarter of the 19th century, probably as a remote unit attached to Manor Farm in Searby Village. Documentary sources indicate that an E-shaped courtyard layout had been attained by around the mid 19th century, with a barn/granary to the northeast and shelter sheds and and stables situated around yards to the southwest. The barn/granary survives but the first floor has been removed. Much altered remains of shelter sheds, loose boxes and a cartshed survive on the northwest side of the complex. |
