Abstract:
AOC Archaeology Group undertook an archaeological watching brief on land to the east of Severn Drive, Garforth, Leeds. This involved monitoring groundworks associated with the construction of two pairs of semi-detached houses, three garages and a boundary wall. The project aimed to establish whether cropmarks identified in fields to the east the development site, which are thought to be of Iron Age or Romano-British date, extend into the area affected by development. In the event, no datable archaeological features were encountered. However, possible evidence of relict ridge and furrow was observed in one foundation trench. In addition, two undated cut features were encountered that were thought to be modern. No evidence was found to suggest that the activity represented by the cropmarks continued into the development site.
