Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation, commissioned by John Samuels Archaeological Consultants on behalf of Gazeley Properties Ltd, was carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology prior to the development of a business/industrial park on land to the south of Cambridge Road, Bedford. The excavation investigated remains dating from the late Neolithic/Bronze Age to the Saxon period. The main components of the site were: a late Neolithic/early Bronze Age henge and barrow; an Iron Age enclosure and annexe; a triple ditch system; part of a Roman strip settlement; and dispersed Saxon settlement comprising a number of sunken feature buildings (SFBs) and associated features. |
