Abstract: |
In order to characterize the archaeological risk posed by a proposal to redevelop the former vicarage, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owner to undertake a field evaluation in advance of the submission of a planning application. Four trenches were excavated across the area. Trench 2 contained a medieval large square pit. Trench 4 contained a medieval beam slot or gully, a post hole and two pits, the larger of which contained medieval pottery. An earlier desk-based assessment of the site revealed that the street frontage had been occupied by a range of properties from at least the late 16th century. |
