Abstract: |
HE Projects was commissioned by Mr David Hoskins to undertake a programme of archaeological recording ahead of the construction of a new wind turbine at Trewinnion Farm, Summercourt (SW 87949 57429). The site lies within 'Anciently enclosed' land in close proximity to several Iron Age/Romano-British rounds so there was a high potential for prehistoric and medieval sites to survive within the project area. The fieldwork located the possible site of a previously unknown Bronze Age barrow and an enigmatic series of parallel ditches of two phases that ran perpendicular to each other, that were possibly medieval, or post-medieval in date they certainly predated the 1840 tithe map as they were not depicted on this. The site of the Bronze Age barrow was not investigated further as it proved possible to move the Crane base away from this part of the site, which enabled the feature to be reburied, and protected, so its identification remains tentative. No other features of archaeological interest were seen over the area of the site and it was observed that the development had very little or no impact on any significant buried remains apart from those noted above. |
