Abstract:
A programme of archaeological work was undertaken between March 2010 and September 2011 on the site of Towie Hill Wind Farm, near Keith, Moray. A previous archaeological field reconnaissance survey was undertaken on the proposed development area in October 2001 by CFA Archaeology Ltd. Due to boundary changes after the initial field survey took place, a small area to the south-west of the proposed development area was surveyed in 2010. Three previously known sites were demarcated and fenced off to prevent accidental damage during the windfarm construction phase; these were Rosarie Forest Buildings (SMR No NJ34NE 0019), Rosarie Forest Enclosure, Farmsteads, Lades and Ponds (SMR No NJ34NE 00193), and a boundary marker (SMR No. NJ34NE0026). These sites were re-visited following construction and there was no change to their baseline condition. A watching brief was also maintained during construction of access tracks and turbine bases in the vicinity of the demarcated administrative boundary marker. There were no features, deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance identified during the watching brief.
