Abstract:
A level 2 Historic Building Recording of a boundary wall was conducted in July 2012. The earliest part of the wall appears to be the lower sections of the eastern side ; the size of the bricks is typically late 17th century and would be consistent with the wall being built in association with Byfeld House. . The western side wall is likely to be slightly later, constructed in association with 'The Homestead'. Further fieldwork evaluation of three trenches revealed a single large pit dating to 1750 - 1780. and a subsequent watching brief was carried out on the removal of a tennis court surface in the north of the site revealing an undisturbed sequence of subsoil and topsoil over the natural gravels.
