Abstract:
Northamptonshire Archaeology carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation on land at Elsenham Quarry, Essex from April 2010 to May 2011. One hundred and fifty-six trenches were excavated across the proposed development area, a 4% sample: only 26 trenches contained archaeological features. Limited evidence for prehistoric, Iron Age and Roman activity was found comprising isolated ditches and occasional pits. The archaeology was concentrated to the east and west of the area, with other parts of the proposed development area containing no archaeological features.
