Abstract: |
In 2010 a watching brief was conducted on geotechnical works at Strood Academy; these included: service check trenches, window sample pits and filtration testing pits. The north and west of the site had be heavily trencated during the construction of the playing field; the material stripped from this area had been deposited on the south and east of the site to level it. No archaeological remains were found. In April to May 2011 a watching brief was undertaken on the topsoil stripping and foundation excavations. A natural sequence of chalk overlain by probable Thanet sands and Head deposits was identified; this had been truncated across the north and west of the site during the construction of the playing fields. A probable boundary ditch was recorded running northwest-southeast across the site. No other significant features were identified. |
