Abstract:		 An archaeological evaluation at Tanners' Hall, Gouda Way, Gloucester (NGR SO 8336 1890) was undertaken on behalf of Turnkey Construction Limited, who intends to submit a planning application for residential redevelopment to Gloucester City Council. This report on an archaeological evaluation describes and assesses the significance of a heritage asset with archaeological interest potentially affected by the application. The impact of the application on the significance is assessed. This evaluation and the two earlier archaeological interventions have demonstrated that this isa well stratified significant archaeological site. It has identified structural remains dating from the 13th century or before in the form of a surface which is either contemporary with Tanners' Hall or is of an earlier date. A wall, dating from the 15th or 16th century, is probably part of an extension to the hall. A series of clay lined tanning pits, dating from at least the 15th and 16th centuries has demonstrated that the tannery, which was known to exist within Tanners' Hall and to the north, also extended to the south-east. However, as only three small trenches were excavated on the site and the small samples of dateable finds makes secure dating problematic.
