Abstract:		 There is currently a proposal to develop land at Bowbrook, Shrewsbury, for a new burial ground. The proposed development site comprises agricultural land on the edge of the modern town. The site lay within the fields of three medieval manors, and a number of cropmark sites of probable prehistoric or Romano-British date are situated in the vicinity of the site. Because of the potential archaeological significance of the site, an archaeological desk-based assessment has been carried out of the proposed development site. This assessment finds that that there is a low to moderate potential for archaeological remains of prehistoric or Romano-British date being within the proposed development site. It recommends that a programme of further archaeological fieldwork be carried out to test for the survival or absence of any such remains.
