Abstract:
In September 2010, an archaeological trial trench evaluation was carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology on behalf of CgMS Consulting on land at Airfield Farm, Market Harborough, Leicestershire. The works identified two areas of occupation. The first comprised Iron Age sub-rectangular enclosures with internal pits and gullies, with unenclosed ring gullies. The small assemblage of pottery recovered dated the features to the middle/late Iron Age, 4th to 1st centuries BC. To the east a Roman settlement comprised enclosure ditches and internal features, with the small pottery assemblage, dated to the 2nd to 4th centuries AD. Towards the north, two undated ring ditches were present. The site was traversed by furrows of a former medieval open field system.
