Abstract:
An archaeological field evaluation by trial trenching was undertaken on land at 3, Church Lane, Leicestershire by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) 28th June to 1st July 2011. The initial potential of the site was highlighted by an Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment Hunt 2011) which indicated that the development area was located in area that had potential for buried remains of buildings associated with mining and 19th century pottery manufacture. A total of 6 trenches were excavated, of which one contained archaeological remains that comprised a 19th century brick foundations for circular kiln and another possible rectangular kiln structure. The kiln contained pottery industry waste biscuit fired pottery, kiln furniture all associated with pottery manufacture. The site archive will be held by Leicestershire County Council under accession number X.A90.2011.
